All Good Things come to an End

Alas, I am here not with a new challenge for this week but with the sorrowful news that I have decided to end running One Powerful Hour.

Let me start by thanking each and everyone that has followed, participated, hosted or just stopped by over the past 3 years. You have made it a joy to run this blog and I wish you all the best of luck in the future.

Please take the time to stop by each of the design team members blogs and add them to your follow list (if you follow people) or google reader etc etc, they are an amazing bunch of women who's talent I know will take them far. Without them the running of OPH this past year would not have been possible.

I look forward to seeing more of your art on your blogs, please leave a comment and I will make sure to add you to my follow list. I enjoy seeing everyone blossom and watching your styles change.

Corrugated Cardboard is a Starbucks Cup Wrap.Quote was crumpled, then flattened before inking.I used a Digital Stamp for the tree, re-coloring it in black (it was dark gray) along the branches & trunk.Martha Stewart Glitter Glue and 2 shades of Green Glitter for the Tree 'leaves'.When all that was dry...3D Crystal Lacquer dripped on thick for the 'fruit', then covered in Gold Glitter.All inks are Stampin' Up!Card-base/Envelope are DCWV.

It's hard to see the textures in the photo: Cherries are glazed in 3D Crystal Lacquer THEN colored with markers so they are shiny and rounded. 'Icing' paper is sanded so it's roughed up and looks more like real 'whipped' icing. Markers, Inks, Stamp Set: Create a Cupcake and Punch: Build a Cupcake are all Stampin' Up! This can be taken in a number of ways, especially with Valentines around the corner. So I incorporated the idea of love being sweet and some tasty cake. What do you think of when you hear/see the term "something sweet?" Can't wait to see what you come up with. And as always have fun!

I figured I would get all the 'sweet' bases covered with this card:
Pastels, Cupcakes, Cutie Mouse and Chocolate!
Well inked layers of ripped pastel papers, antique lace and a few brads for the front.
Digi-Stamp image was colored and Glittered (a lot!)
The inside says it all!

What does Retro/Pop Art mean? Well Retro to me means fashions/fads from the past, most specifically the 40's and 50's. Pop Art is a style of art that became popular during the 40's and 50's. But just because this is what I think Retro is doesn't mean it's the only way to interpret this theme. Show me what you think of when you see the term "retro" or add a little Pop art style to your piece. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Warm Winter Wishes

Think sweaters, toasty fires, hot creamy cocoa, warm blankets and fuzzy socks. I'd like you to focus on some of the WARMER aspects of winter.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with...

I redecorated a package of Tetley 'Warmth' Tea, it's a gift for a friend that's been feeling down.

I recovered the container in some scrap paper from doing my Ali Edwards December Daily picturing flowing snow kills, wee trees and a cottage.

The stamp sets used are both Stampin' Up!:
Snowflakes ('Warm Winter Wishes') and Espresso Yourself ('Your friendship warms my heart' & cups) I used these to stamp a 'strip' on another scrap that I also wrapped around the tin. The tag is layered not with pattern paper but more scrap rubbed in several shades of ink... I wanted a 'fuzzy sweater' feel/look.

Tag attached with matching brown ribbon, all stamping is done in dark brown

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.

I took one look in my trashcan this week and couldn't believe I was throwing away so much wrapping paper, ribbon scraps and tissue paper. So rip into those gifts, wrap with abandon and take the left overs and put them to good use. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

How I wonder what your are...
We all know the classic nursery rhyme chant.
Here is a chance to let YOUR star shine!
This weeks prompt is anything your Muse desires that includes a star.

I made a decoration for the Christmas Tree.I started with a plain-jane Chipboard Star. The layered the life out of it!I inked it with a few shades of yellow, then glimmer misted it all yellow/gold.Then I used one of the big swirly Fancy Pants stamps and gold ink, covered it in Gold embossing powder and heated.

Then I covered the whole Star in clear ink and Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) and heated that. Next I stamped the same stamp in the other direction in silver, covered it in both glitter and Silver embossing powder and heated.

Then another layer of clear ink and UTEE, heated.I used 3D Crystal Lacquer around the edges, covered in UTEE and heated. I love doing this, the 3D-CL bubbles a bit and makes some pretty cool extra texture.Then I used the 3D-CL down 1 edge, covered in clear Micro-Beads and heated (more cool bubbling).

Last I brushed more 3D-CL on and glittered that. I heated 1 last time to seal it all in.It's hard to see in the pictures but the layers are all there, floating on top of each other and it's very sparkly!

What do you think of when you think about angels? Little girls with wings? Cherubs? or do you just want to do a play on words and make your Angel of War small? Whatever your fancy we can't wait to see your little angels.
Sarah who has been cameraless (insert gasp) for a few weeks finally got to share her lovely work with us again.

I dug out my Angel Sent stamp set from Close to My Heart and some film slide cases and made this cute little wall hanging.I have been trying to find a use for these cases since my Mom dropped them off a few months ago. Reduce-Reuse-Redecorate at it's best!

I stamped the images on cardstock, colored them in and then attached them to back of the white side of the mounts with dual sided tape.Trimming the excess off the image sheet of afterward...so much easier then trying to pre-measure and stamp *just right*. ;O)

Then I laid the lace over the backs, with a finger width in between, attached with more dual sided tape. Then I attached the black side of the mounts with dual sided tape.

The 'ring' is actually a circular brad. I pulled the lace through the ring, then ran the prongs through the lace for security holding the weight once it's hanging up, folding the excess lace back and attaching it to the back of the top slide with...You guessed it! More dual sided tape.

This one is earmarked for a Christmas Gift and I plan to make some more...still got more slides

To me apples are a quintessential part of fall...going apple picking, drinking apple cider, making apple pie...everything about them to me says warm and comforting. Do apples mean the same thing to you? Sarah thinks of Snow White. I'm looking forward to seeing all your wonderful apple art!

Apple of My Eye:
I made this greeting card using Krafting Kimmie's Snow White stamp set. Base of the card is a pre-done (Yes, I cheated!) The Paper Company card base in Hunter Elegant Leaf. Background is white card-stock liberally sprayed with orange, yellow and copper glimmer mist, which I then smooshed around with another sheet on top. I wanted a soft-glow-shimmery feel. The apples and Snow White were all stamped then colored with Stampin'Up! Markers and cut out. Shimmered up her skirt with 3D Crystal lacquer and glitter. Same for the apples... the main apple also has a top coating of 3D Crystal Lacquer.

Sarah dreams of five tiered cakes for her sons upcoming birthday.

I decided to make his Birthday Card. He's a Teddy Bear fan so I used this Coloring Book Image; I just love the tippy cake. :O) The base of the card (4X7") is Glimmer Misted and edge inked. The next layer is this wonderful handmade paper I've been hoarding forever. It's covered in pastel 'gelly' stars and dots, I lightly misted it purple. Image is hand colored and the Quote is also misted and inked. Little Metal charm reads: Make a Wish. Inside has a simple Happy Birthday stamp.

I've got the Blues!

Well, I really don't LOL. I do however find that blue is a color I do not use much in my artwork unless I use it monochromatically and I always really like the pieces I make. So this week I would love to see what you do with the color blue. It does not have to be a monochrome piece but I would like the majority to be blue.

I start by staining a wood sign blank, then spraying it liberally with Blue Glimmer Mist. Next step was swirling acrylic paint on and spraying the Glimmer Mist on again (while still wet). I lightly misted the quote and attached fluff (dead stuffed animal 'guts') to the back and then attached that to the sign."There's a Big Blue Sky waiting right behind the clouds." -Brad Paisley Song

Well for me this has been a Creative Summer, continuing with my pledge to be more Creative this year.I started with a mounted Canvas... glued the Quote on, then covered the remaining with tinted Texture Plaster. The rest... basically if it was withing arms reach of my work area, it's on here! Cogs (from dead runners) beads, chipboard, wood elements, buttons, buttons & more buttons, brads, brass thingies, spoon, lace, ribbon, flowers, book page, gems, Glimmer Mist and GLITTER! Back to School... Back to Books... and Teacher's Dirty Looks!

Make something 'Book' related... have fun!

One of the most visual quotes I've ever heard:Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.~Sr Francis Bacon~I created a Postcard for this weeks theme Hitting the Books. All edges sanded and inked... The back ground image was faded, then I hand colored in some of the key elements: napkin, cutlery & plate. The books are mounted on cereal box board, 3D Crystal Lacquered and then attached (at 2 heights) with scrap EZ-mount foam.

Tin/Aluminum

This week Sarah is helping me celebrate my 10 year anniversary with the theme...

Tin and or Aluminum

I looked up what the "traditional" 10 year gift is and it is supposed to be something made out of tin or aluminum. Needless to say i am not going to give my husband a roll of aluminum foil LOL. So this week please include a bit of tin or aluminum or a way to suggest that you have used that item (periodical symbol image of the Wizard of Oz tin Man...).

*giggle* I've been dying to use this quote for a project! 'Sometimes the one who you think is your knight in shining armor actually turns out to be a moron in tin foil' Clip-art for the Postcard Castle background, Face and Base of the Armor.I printed of 3 copies of the Armor then cut the helmet, arms and collar out as separate pieces from 2 of them. These I covered in crumpled, then flattened tinfoil. I attached the mini-brad 'studs' as I went. Then attached all the parts to the 3rd copy, also covered in tinfoil.

THIS was a hard one!
I have dogs but am allergic to cats so unsure of kitty fancies & whims, lol.
I didn't want to do 'just a dog' project, but was lucky... I found a good 'both' quote. The picture is from The Graphics Fairy online hoard. Wooden base wall-hanging, MUCH sanding. Favorite Flowers

I am very allergic to flowers so I really can't have live ones around, and I think that's one of the reasons I like to include flowers in a lot of my work. My favorite flower is the Tulip. It always reminds me of a new beginning, as they are one of the first to come up in the Spring. Show us your favorite flower in your next OPH project. Have fun and enjoy the flowers!!

New Design Team Member Sarah chose Caroline's "B is for..."
I changed the title to "S is for..." with my name (Sarah) and some 'S' words that describe me. I did my journaling slanted (like her ribbon) and used pearls in my flowers (like on her ribbon). Big intro letter and a photo (like hers). All my lettering was snipped out then laid out and liberally Glimmer Misted before attaching.

New Design Team Member Amy created her inspiration ATC based on Peggy.
I saw this image on her blog and I had it..so I used it! I just love the snail. I'm a mom of 4 and you have to have plenty of patience to be a mom! I imagine this snail going along slowly and these fairies having the patience to wait no matter how long it takes him to get where they want to go!

I (Caroline) took my inspiration from both Nancy and Amy
Nancy states in her bio that she loves all things Tim Holtz and Amy (I have noticed) likes to doodle on her pieces and incorporate fun sayings. I used Tim Holtz distress paints and alcohol inks, I hand drew/doodled the swirls on my piece and came up with what I think is a fun phrase adding it in an Amyesk fashion.

Thanks for having me on the blog. I am always up for a good challenge..in fact that is what drives and inspires me to make art everyday! I love doing theme's because it opens my eye's up to see what I have around me..what is available to me on my desk and using those items to make art! I love using a variety of items to create my artwork: pencil, pen, paint, image's, stamps, ink and various other embellishments.

I am in my early 40s, I live in south eastern Australia, with my husband, poochie (Jack Russell Whippet X, named Sam) and special needs 'foster' daughter with multiple disabilities. I was destined to be a crafter - Mum knits and crochets, Nan was a milliner, Grandma was a ballgown seamstress, so I guess I had no hope!) I got my own back though, because I’ve turned Mum into an addicted scrapbooker! My crafting is precious to me, because I have a degenerative vision impairment.

I love scrapbooking, card crafting, and making jewellery.... and I'm happy to try crafting anything! I do demos for local events - ladies groups, craft fairs etc - and sell my cards and jewellery at a local market and by special order. I also run a scrapbooking group twice monthly .... just can’t get enough paper! I use a lot of haberdashery, beads and stitching in my paper creations.... I design my own stitching patterns, and am now 'playing' with my own digistamps.

I believe that we create from the heart – otherwise we wouldn’t bother crafting! I love that we blog share our creations because we are sharing a part of ourselves. Scrapbooking is Cheaper than Therapy

I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I’m mom to 4 boyz ages 12 down to 5 years old. Yes I’m busy, yes I’m tired… and don’t ask how ‘clean’ my house is. lol.

I’m getting married in September so life is even busier, but oh so fun! I often refer to myself as having ADAD (Attention Deficit Art Disorder) as you can see on my blog. I’m always up to something Art-sy.

I call myself a Mixed Media Artist because if I can find some way to craft it; I will… I’m always Re-Using, Re-ducing & Re-decorating.

I’ve been creative my whole life, don’t think I could put a ‘date’ on when I started making Art, if my Mum’s right it’d be on the wall about the same time she gave my solid foods. I've chosen 2010 as my year to ‘CREATE’ and so I’ve been dipping my toes into some new-to-me creative ponds.

So pleased to be invited to join the all these oh-so-talented ladies on One Powerful Hour's Design Team! Thank-You.

I am 59 years old, work full time in A/R and try to find time in my craft room to just be me. I have been married to Kevin for 27 years as of Dec this year and we have a nice family of cats. Right now we have 6 three girls and three boys and I don't know what we would do without them. Sammie is one of the girls, she's about six years old and she spends lots of time with me in my craft room talking to me and watching out the window for something great. Two years ago I got my first Tattoo, which I have always wanted, and I just got my 5th one in Sept - a picture of one of my kitties. Now Mr. Boo is always with me. He is two and a really big scardy cat!!

I have been making cards for 2o years. I started with the very simple computer cards and have evolved into the compleatly hand made cards and projects. I started getting into more of the altered art and using collage images about three years ago and it has really expanded art work. I am also a huge fan of Tim Holtz and the whole vintage, grunge world. I think my favorite projects now are Tags and ATC's.

Art has become for me "therapy". I can celebrate happy occasions or work through sad or difficult times by creating art. I love creating special art for others. I often use old family pictures in my pieces and feel good about giving them birth again. I love to laugh,am very sentimental, and cry more happy tears than sad ones. Loyalty, honesty, and sharing good things with others is important to me. I enjoy seeing all the new art of artists friends and am learning something new every day! Laughing makes better wrinkles on your face!

The mind behind One Powerful Hour

I am a self taught Mixed Media artist that prefers to dabble in all things glittery but at the same time learn new techniques. Over the past year I have started to dable in Photoshop and painting.

The concept of One Powerful Hour came to me one night after my first little girl was born. I was desperate to get some play time in but just didn't know how so my husband said..."I'll take care of everything go close the studio door for an hour" and walla One Powerful Hour was born.

I am eternally grateful for all the followers and the artwork you each post I learn a lot from you. I am also very excited about the New Team members and what they will each bring to OPH. Looking forward to many more fun topics and I hope you are too.

She has created a 6"x7" stamp collage. She used 4 different stamps, some dried flowers and an Asian image enhancing it by adding small areas of color with photoshop.

What can you do with these fabulous colors? Over here in America they are the symbol of freedom, the colors of our flag and a make great party decorations. But us artist use them for so much more! Pull a piece together using predominantly White and Blue and throw in a touch of red, use any shade of the colors that you like and any subject is fair game.

I wanted to do a little something different for a "Father's Day" Theme...I scoured the Internet looking for a poem never found one that I was 100% happy with but I thought this one would work...

What does this mean? Well, my favorite color is yellow but I find that it is almost totally absent in my art work. So I decided to pay homage to it.

Do you have an alter ego? Or do you admire someone that does? Do you wish you did have an alter ego? The possibilities with this one are endless...

I had some trouble at first so Peggy helped me out by sending the following information:

Definition
1. Another side of oneself; a second self.
2. An intimate friend or a constant companion.

An alter ego (Latin, "the other I") is a second self, a second personality or persona within a person, who is often oblivious to the persona's actions. It was coined in the early nineteenth century when dissociative identity disorder was first described by psychologists.[1] A person with an alter ego is said to lead a double life.

Another side of yourself, real, imaginary that others may not know. Personality with strong influence on your personality. Either historical or present day! A friend or person who is just like you!

She created this 5x7 collage using an image from divasdeste, Anna griffin paper, buttons, and charms. She did a filter with photo shop to make it look like fabric.

To all those concerned about Laura's art...

Laura's art was not "stolen" I unfortunately made a mistake. When Laura responded to the Alice in Wonderland challenge I was under the impression that she had submitted her lovely artwork. On most challenge blogs when artwork is submitted permission to showcase the art is not asked. It is considered an honor by most to have their artwork featured, at least that is how I felt when mine was featured.

Please accept my apologise for the miss crediting of Laura's art. I have learned a valuable lesson here and will make sure in the future to double check the names of those featured in my samplers.

When I was little my parents took me to Venice during Carnival and I remember all the wonderful costumes and masks that they wore. It was amazing! That is what inspired me to create this piece. Congratulations...

There are so many things in life that people deserve congratulations for. We say it all the time but do we spend enough time dedicating our art to those people that deserve congratulations?

This week lets do just that, make a piece for someone you know that deserves congratulations maybe it is for graduation, getting a new job, making it 3 weeks on that New Years resolution or (in my case) having a baby (shameless plug, sorry). Or just make a generic piece that you can send to someone later. Whatever you decide to create have fun doing it and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
